How to Keep Your Furnace Performing Its Best This Winter

Winter is here, so that means it’s time to turn off the AC and fire up the furnace. On the cold days that lie ahead, you want to make sure your furnace is performing properly so it keeps your family nice and warm and your energy bills nice and cheap.

What can you do to help ensure your furnace runs smoothly this winter?

  • Check filters regularly—The simplest and most important step is to check your furnace filters on a regular basis. Clogged filters can decrease your furnace’s efficiency and make your home uncomfortable. Check the filters monthly, and replace them when they get dirty.
  • Make sure your home is sealed properly—If your home’s seal is compromised, you’ll let air escape, making your home cold and drafty and causing your energy bills to soar. Check all doors and windows to ensure they are sealed up properly.
  • Don’t use it when you’re not home—There’s no need to have your heater running at full blast when you’re gone all day at work. Adjust the thermostat accordingly so that your home remains moderately comfortable for when you get back.
